2005 Events:
- NOVEMBER - ISE Personnel conducted a three week training event at the Maritime Ocean Engineering Research Institute in Korea. MOERI is the owner of an International Submarine Engineering HYSUB 25. ISE provided a Belly Pack, Cameras, Lights and hooked up a Winch and Tether. This work and training took place in the MOERI shop and at Jang Mok. Jang Mok is the home base for MOERI's group of research vessels.
- AUGUST- IFREMER, the French Research Institute for Exploration of the Sea, has ordered a second AUV from Cybernetix S.A. of France and International Submarine Engineering of Canada. The first IFREMER order was delivered in February of 2004 and is seen being prepared for operations in the photograph. Two additional AUVs of this class are under construction; one to the University of Southern Mississippi and the other to Memorial University of Newfoundland.
These AUVs are of the ISE Explorer class. These Explorers are 4.5 meters long with a diameter of 0.687 meters and weigh 750 kilograms. They are capable of diving to depths of 3000 meters. The modular design of the AUV permits easy re-configuration of the vehicle for a variety of applications and missions. In the same context, open architecture software avoids legacy problems and allows the operator to adapt the behavior of the vehicle to meet new requirements.
Explorer is a family of vehicles. To facilitate establishing the characteristics of vehicles to meet specific needs ISE has developed a Design Engine; "Quick Design". To access Quick Design go the Products Section of the ISE website and then to the Autonomous Underwater Vehicle section. Follow the prompts to the Quick Design area. Then design your own AUV or perform trade off analysis.
- MAY-JUNE -Between May and June of 2005 the developed by ISE and ACB has been demonstrated and tested in three separate major bodies of water - the
Atlantic Ocean, the Gulf of Mexico and the Pacific Ocean. The Atlantic test were for the Multi Agency Craft Conference at Little Creek, Virginia. In the Gulf of Mexico demonstrations were conducted for USCG 8th District at New Orleans and then for COMINEWARFARE in Corpus Christi. The Pacific test were conducted at San Diego for US 3rd Fleet, the USCG and the Port of San Diego. In all cases the demonstrations were successful and drew positive attention from all parties concerned.
- JUNE - June 29th and 30th at Corpus Christi Texas, DCN provided COMINEWARCOM, Rear Admiral D. Lowewer and Staff, with a full scale demonstration of SEAKEEPER and it's application to Mine Warfare. The demonstration was termed "highly informative and successful" by COMINEWARCOM Staff personnel. Further discussions between DCN and COMINEWARCON are anticipated.
- JUNE - Ventana is a HYSUB 40/1850 built in 1987 and operated as an Oceanographic Research ROV. As of June 27 2005, this ROV has successfully completed 2700 dives for over 16,000 hours of wet-time for Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute Ventana supports research programs across a broad range of science discipline's in both the pelagic and benthic environments. Ventana is undeniably the most active scientific ROV operation in the world.
- JUNE - June 9th at the Corpus Christi Naval Air Station, ISE and demonstrated "The Machine" Unmanned Surface Vessel to Commander Mine Warfare Command (COMINEWARCOM) and other factions of the US Navy. Lieutenant Commander A.K. Williams and others were shown low-speed and high-speed (45 mph) maneuvers, as well as autonomous mission capabilities (Station keeping, patrolling, etc). Download PDF
- MAY - May 19th and 20th at the Naval Amphibious Base, Little Creek, Norfolk, Virginia, ISE in partnership with ACB successfully demonstrated Unmanned Surface Vessel (USV) capability. With ISE's Tactical Controller Kit (TCK) installed on ACB's "The MACHINE", this marked a milestone: The first instance of a working USV to have been successfully demonstrated at MACC (Multi-Agency Craft Conference).
